PARENT MATCHING SERVICES

What is parent matching?

Parent Matching Programs are designed to assist families of children with disabilities and special health needs by providing support and encouragement to other parents in similar situations.  Parents are matched on a one-to-one basis and receive support through telephone contacts and personal visits to homes, hospitals, or centers.

What services are available in Parent Matching Programs?

  • Family Resource Lending Library - books, videos, newsletters, articles, and comprehensive resource guides on topics related to family issues and disabilities.
  • Information and Referral - information for families about programs and services including healthcare, networking activities, advocacy and community leadership.
  • Parent Speakers Network - staff members and parent volunteers available to train professionals in the fields of health, education and human services.
  • School and Community Network - referral network for families who are relocating and wish to speak to other families about the schools and community resources.
  • Hospital Visiting Program - parent coordinators available to visit families of children with disabilities who are hospitalized at Westchester Medical Center or at outpatient/pediatric clinics.
